Traditional Domestic Section

This section contains hand-made objects with functions linked to housekeeping and everyday use: food storage, hygiene, housework. It is a typology of ceramics covering a time that goes from the second half of 12th century to the first half of 20th century, and it is variously represented by traditional shapes used in order to keep water, wine, oil, vinegar and in order to carry water or to preserve food supply (“capasone”, “capasone alla capuana” “trimmone”, “capasa”, “vummile”, “cicine”, “pitale”, “cammautto”, etc.).
Moreover, the Museum shows other important objects that are to be mentioned: the so-called “tiestu” and “pignata” used to cook, those used to wash linen, dishes, vegetables and food (“crasta ti cofanu”, “limmu”, “scafarea”, “pendriale”), those used to contain plants (“crasta”, “casc’pò”), the chamber-pots (“nicissario”, “rinale”, etc.), the pots used to draw off water from the pools (“vucale pi puzzu a ‘ngegna”), the chimney-pots (“ciminiera”) and the pipes used to build the scaffolds of furnaces (“orieni”).
